James O. “JP” Purdy Sr., 74, of Auburn, went to heaven Wednesday May 4, 2016 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne surrounded by his family.
JP was born October 15, 1941 in McComas, WVa. He had retired for Wal-Mart in Auburn and Golden Corral in Fort Wayne. He enjoyed fishing, camping, outdoor activities, bowling and had a great green thumb. He also was an avid sports fan and enjoyed the Indianapolis Colts, basketball and watching Jeff Gordon in NASCAR.
JP married Joyce J. Purdy on March 30, 1980 and she survives in Auburn. Also surviving are children, Sandra (Stan) Gadzinski of Middletown, DE, Pamela (Ryan Rudinoff) Cassidy of Wilmington, DE, Jalyne (Patrick) McCann of Greenwood, IN, Rebecca Martin of Pembroke, VA, James O. “Jay” Purdy Jr., of Pembroke, VA, Vicki Lyn (Daniel) Bray of Lafollette, TN, Thomas (Annetta) Martin of Ripplemead, VA, and Garnet (Debbie) Martin of Ripplemead, VA; 19 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; two brothers, Terry (Juanita) Manning of Edon, OH, and David (Emma) Manning of Edon, OH; sister, Brenda Trausch of Edon, OH;former wife, Vera Jean Aaron of Wilmington, DE; He was a wonderful uncle and cousin to many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Henry Manning in 1982 and Annie Elizabeth Manning in 2010; his canine companion, Rusty in 2008.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday with visitation one hour prior at Pinnington-McComb Funeral & Cremation Services 502 N. Main Street, Auburn. Rev. Paul Collins Sr. will be officiating. Visitation will be held Monday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial in Edon Cemetery, Edon, OH.
