Jerald L. Schelling (1941 – 2015)

Jerald LeRoy Schelling WEBJerald LeRoy Schelling, 73, a lifelong resident of West Unity, Ohio went to be with the Lord on April 6th, surrounded by his family in his home. He was born on November 25, 1941 in Montpelier to Robert and Evelo (Rath) Schelling. Jerald graduated from Montpelier High School in 1960. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. On October 5, 1963 he married Brenda Marie Miller in Alvordton, Ohio and she proceeded him in death on July 25, 1993.

Jerald was employed by Conagra, formerly LaChoy Company in Archbold for 35 years, until his retirement in 2006. He was a 50 year life member of the Montpelier Moose 312 and the Bryan Amvets Post 54. He loved camping and spending time with his family, especially his grandson Jared. Jerald cherished his golf cart rides with Jared at the campgrounds. He also enjoyed playing BINGO and Euchere.

He is survived by one son, Gene (Cindy) Schelling of Bryan, Ohio; one daughter, Victoria Schelling of West Unity, Ohio; one grandson, Jared Schelling; one brother, Charles (Joyce) Schelling of Pioneer, Ohio; and two brother-in-laws, Robert (Alice) Hollstein, Sr and Michael (Pat) Hollstein.

Jerald was preceded in death by his parents, wife Brenda, and sister Mary Soule.

Visitation for Jerald will be on Friday, April 10th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Thompson-Geesey Funeral Home, 335 Empire Street in Montpelier, with a Moose Funeral Rite to be held at 7:30pm. Funeral services will be on Saturday at 11am at the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Sheldon to officiate. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier with military rites provided by the Montpelier Veterans.
