(Golf Coach At North Central For 14 Years)

Joel Eugene Boothman, 54, of Pioneer, Ohio passed away on July 17, 2024 at Parkview Hospital Randallia in Fort Wayne, Indiana, after a 10-year battle with Aplastic Anemia. He was a warrior!

Joel was born on September 24, 1969 in Toledo, Ohio to JoAnn Boothman and was raised by his adoptive parents Hillis and Rose (Flightner) Boothman, Sr.

Joel graduated from North Central High School in 1988. On October 15, 1994 he married Leigh M. Short in Archbold, Ohio and she survives.

Joel was the owner and operator of Mr. Clean’s Lawn Care in Pioneer since 2008. For a brief time, he also worked for Aro Corp in Bryan and was a bartender at the local American Legion.

Joel loved the game of golf and had a great passion for coaching many players throughout his 14 years as a coach for the North Central Eagles golf program.

He had a desire to help young golfers grow in their skills and mental toughness. Joel also enjoyed pheasant hunting with Rooster, deer camping trips in Georgetown to bear hunts in Minnesota and Canada. People who knew Joel, knew him to be “kinda a big deal”.

Joel is survived by his wife Leigh M. Boothman; son, Chace D. Boothman of Pioneer; mother, JoAnn Boothman of Edgerton; and siblings, Hillis (Sandi) Boothman, Jr., of Camden, Michigan, Lori (Randy) Beck of Stryker, Pam Kemerly of Pioneer, Peggy (Matt) Brown of Edgerton, Jonell (Jr.) Combs of Bryan and Cherie (Charles) Francis of Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hillis and Rose Boothman, Sr., and maternal grandmother, Thelma Flightner.

A time to receive friends will be held on Monday, July 22, 2024 from 2-7 pm at the Jr. High Gym at North Central Schools in Pioneer. Parking for the visitation is welcomed in the north and east lots of the school’s campus, with points of entry being located at the northeast corner of school or at the Jr. High Gym entrance. Those planning to attend are invited to wear Joel’s favorite attire, orange and black clothing or camo.

Memorials may be made in Joel’s memory to the NC Golf Team or the Williams County Pheasants Forever. Condolences can be left for the family at www.thethompsonfuneralhome.com.
