Lady Indians Capitalize Off Mistakes, Defeat Bulldogs

WAUSEON 1/11/2014—The Defiance Lady Bulldogs would turn the ball over 27 times, and the Wauseon Lady Indians would capitalize on their opponents mistakes. The Indian’s would pick up their 7th win of the year, defeating Defiance 51-22.

The Indians Sariah Yackee started off the contest with a hot hand, scoring seven points in the opening quarter including a three pointer.  Her hot shooting helped lead her team to a 10-7 first quarter lead.

Wauseon took complete control of the game in the second period, holding Defiance to only six points while scoring 18 points of their own. Sariah Yackee hit another three pointer, and Natalie Koenig contributed nine points of her own to give the Tribe a 28-13 lead at the intermission.

The Indian’s continued to have a balanced offensive attack, as nine different players scored in the contest. Their defense also played a huge role in the second half, holding Defiance to only nine points in the half. After three quarters, Wauseon held a sizeable 42-19 win.

Defiance would not be able to shrink the Indian lead, as they would be held to only three points in the final quarter of action. The Indians would take the victory 51-22.

Natalie Koenig scored 14 points in the contest, leading the way for the Indians. Sariah Yackee also scored double digits with 11. Maddie Richer was next with nine, Sally Frank contributed six, Haley Archibeque scored four, Kylie Archibeque put up three, Hannah Blaylock scored two, and Lindsey Archibeque and Anna Marshall both scored a point.
