Lawrence Ewers (1932-2013)

Lawrence Ray Ewers, age 80, of Montpelier, passed away early Sunday morning March 10, 2013 in his home. He was born on May 4, 1932 in Defiance, Ohio to the late Ray and Edith (Kyser) Ewers. Lawrence graduated from Ney High School in 1950. On February 16, 1952 he married Alma Jean Schindler at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Bryan.
Lawrence honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War Era from 1952-1954. He retired from Hayes Albion, where he worked as a superintendent, after 41 years of service. Lawrence was a long time parishioner of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He was involved in numerous activities throughout his life including, farming, working as a 4-H advisor and coaching the Montpelier Little League. He was a lifelong fan of all sporting activities with his favorite teams being The Ohio State Buckeyes and The Detroit Tigers. His other hobbies included traveling and fishing.

Lawrence leaves behind his loving wife of 61 years, Alma Jean Ewers; seven children, Deborah (Jeff) Clark of Alvordton, Charles (Diana) Ewers of Montpelier, Paula (Rodney) Luke of Montpelier, Sandy (Brian) Burcham of Richmond, VA, Steve (Cecilia) Ewers of Dayton, Martha (Ty) Daniel of Ney and Ed (Kristen) Ewers of Montpelier; 21 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; three brothers, Leonard Ewers of Ney, Ned (Sandy) Ewers of Ayersville, and John Ewers of Bryan; two sisters, Eileen (Larry) Lloyd of Stryker and Mary Russell of Boca Rotan, FL; other family members and good friends. In addition to his parents, Lawrence was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Isabelle Burcham.

Visitation for Lawrence will be held on Wednesday March 13, 2013 from 2-8 pm at the Thompson Funeral Home in Montpelier. A scripture service will be held at 7:00 P.M Wednesday followed by a Rosary service at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place the following day, Thursday March 14 at 10:30 am at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Bryan with Father Jim Halleron to officiate. Burial will follow at Brown Cemetery near Bryan. Donations may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church, Visiting Nurses & Hospice of Williams & Fulton Counties or to donor’s choice.
