Lester R. Miller (1923 – 2015)

Lester R Miller WEBLester R. Miller, 91, of Montpelier passed away Friday morning at Evergreen Manor Nursing Home in Montpelier. He was born on September 1, 1923 in Bridgewater Township, Ohio to Ralph and Sarah Ann (Owen) Miller. Lester graduated from Montpelier High School in 1941. In 1948 he married Joann Drake and she preceded him in death in July 1983.

Lester was a retired machinist and metal fabricator; he also worked in engineering department while at Richmond Machine, in Montpelier from 1956-1989. He was a 50 year member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Montpelier. At one time Lester was very active in the little league program in Montpelier. For approximately 20 years Lester would donate his time and materials to build a shed that would be raffled off at the Williams County Fair to support the D.A.R.E. program. He also assisted with the Cub Scouts in Montpelier.

He is survived by one son, Rick L. (Adele) Miller of Bryan; three daughters, Terry (John) Muehlfeld of Bryan, Susan (John) Gearhart of Montpelier and Stephanie Studer of Quincy, Michigan; 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild; and one sister Betty Suffel of Montpelier.

Lester was preceded in death by his parents, wife Joann, son Thomas Allen Miller in April 1983, and six brothers, Reo, Harold, Earl, Eldon, Owen, and Owlen.

Visitation for Lester will be on Monday, March 2nd from 2-8pm at The Thompson Funeral Home on Main Street in Montpelier. Services will be on Tuesday at 11am at the funeral home with Pastor Richard Blank to officiate. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier.


Donations may be made to the Williams County D.A.R.E program or Montpelier Youth Baseball and Softball. Online condolences can be left for the family at www.thethompsonfuneralhome.com
