
PRESS RELEASE – The Milk Products and Dairy Cattle Judging FFA Events were recently held in Henry County.
The focus of the Milk Products CDE (Career Development Event) is on achievement of high quality raw milk and attributes of selected products of milk. The student takes a written test, identifies milk defects, cheese products and milk products.
Area District results are: first went to Tinora, second went to West Unity, fourth went to Fairview, fifth went to Evergreen, sixth went to Archbold, and seventh to Delta.
Top individuals were: first place was Cash McCann from Tinora, third place was Zia Siegel from West Unity, fourth place was Brailynn Demoulin from Evergreen and fifth place was Carlee Schaffner from West Unity.
The Dairy Cattle Judging CDE is an educational activity designed as a practical method of teaching students to select quality dairy cattle.
Students were challenged with pedigree evaluation, sire selection, linear evaluation, a written test, placing classes and writing class reasons.
Placing first was Liberty Center, second was Patrick Henry, third was Archbold, fourth was Pettisville, fifth was Fairview and sixth was Ayersville.
In the individual ratings first place went to Andrew Silveus from Liberty Center, second went to Landon Elchinger from Patrick Henry, third was Levi Ankney from Ayersville, fourth was Alana Naveau from Liberty Center and fifth was Courtney Wiemken from Pettisville.
CDE’s are an extension of the local agricultural education classroom and serve as an authentic application of the curriculum in which students are instructed.
Through agricultural education and the FFA, amazing opportunities exist for FFA members. With over 300 careers in agriculture, food, fiber and natural resources, FFA members can look forward to unlimited success.
They are future chemists, business owners, politicians, community leaders, veterinarians, farmers, and teachers. The skills obtained through FFA will serve a student for life.
