Local Obituary: Bobbie Brokaw (1971 – 2025)

Bobbie Sue Brokaw, 53, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away Thursday, January 16, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family. Bobbie was born July 6, 1971, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, daughter of Robert and Ollie (Kessinger) Voght.

She was a 1989 graduate of Elmhurst High School and continued her education at Taylor University, graduating with a degree in elementary education in 1995. Bobbie married Brian D. Brokaw on August 17, 1996, in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Bobbie was an elementary teacher at Fishback Creek Public Academy, Indianapolis, Indiana for 10 years. She previously taught at Bryan Elementary, Bryan, Ohio for 6 years.

Bobbie was a devoted member of Crossbridge Baptist Church. Her faith was extremely important to her, and she loved Jesus with all her heart and served him in all she did.

Bobbie loved her family, and her children were her pride and joy. She would do anything for them and was a wonderful mom and wife. In her free time, Bobbie enjoyed meeting up with friends, playing board games, and traveling.


Surviving is her husband, Brian Brokaw of Indianapolis, Indiana; two children, Chloe and Anthony Brokaw, both of Indianapolis, Indiana; father, Robert Voght; four siblings, Debra Barva, Ronda (Kelvin) Murphy, Ralph Barva, and Gerald Barva; mother-in-law, Joy Brokaw.

Bobbie was preceded in death by her mother, Ollie Voght; two children, Joshua Brokaw and Kathleen Brokaw; three brothers, Joseph Barva, Lynn Barva, and Steve Barva; sister, Mary Jo Warren; father-in-law, David Brokaw.

Visitation for Bobbie will be held Friday, January 24, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 N. Lynn Street, Bryan, Ohio. Funeral services will immediately begin at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Dan Hayden officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Grove Cemetery, West Unity, Ohio.
