(1960 Graduate Of Swanton High School)

Daniel P. McQuade, age 82, of Swanton, Ohio, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday morning, January 18, 2025.

Born on July 11, 1942, Daniel was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, whose life was marked by compassion, service, and unwavering faith.

Daniel was the beloved husband of Gloria, and the proud father of Tim, Shannon, Corey, and Chad. He was a deeply dedicated family man who cherished his role as a loving father and grandfather, always prioritizing his loved ones and their well-being.

His heart overflowed with kindness, and he lived by the values that mattered most to him: to love Jesus, love family, love neighbors, and yes, to love the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was a graduate of Swanton High School (1960), Loyola University (1964) and Ohio State University Law School (1967).

A lifelong follower of Christ, Daniel lived a life of humility and selflessness, always striving to be the hands and feet of Jesus. He was a kind-hearted and empathetic man, known for his bravery in standing up for those without a voice.

His commitment to justice and his passion for helping others were reflected in his career as a lawyer, where he served the town of Swanton for 56 years and the neighboring communities with integrity and compassion.

One of his greatest legacies was founding the Swanton Christian Food Pantry in partnership with his wife, Gloria and the area churches. The pantry help feed many over the years and was a reflection of his deep belief in the power of community and his desire to serve others in their time of need.

Daniel was also a dedicated Rotarian and a passionate founding board member of the Swanton Library for over 50 years. Daniel’s work and his actions were a testament to his faith and his commitment to making the world a better place, one act of kindness at a time.

In addition to his family and community, Daniel leaves behind countless friends who were touched by his gentle spirit, his generosity, and his love for others. His life was a life well-lived, one of purpose, compassion, and deep faith.

Daniel was preceded in death by his father Richard B McQuade Sr., his mother Mildred McQuade (Sendelbach) and his brother Timothy.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria (Cole) McQuade, son Timothy McQuade (Lori), daughter Shannon McQuade-Lafkas (Trey), son Corey McQuade (Jenny), son Chad McQuade (Erin), brother Richard B. McQuade Jr, (Jane), brother Matthew McQuade (Colleen), brother Kevin McQuade, brother Colin McQuade (Gayle), grandchildren Allie Boring (Andrew), Luke McQuade (Leyna), Leah McQuade, Daniel Lafkas, Clare McQuade, Joseph Lafkas, Christian McQuade, Landon McQuade, Cole McQuade, Nicholas Lafkas, Grayson McQuade, Anna Lafkas, Emmet McQuade and Kamden McQuade.

Visitation will be held Thursday, January 23rd from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Weigel Funeral Home (204 Chestnut St.) in Swanton. A celebration of Daniel’s life will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, January 24th at St. Richards Catholic Church (333 Brookside Drive) in Swanton, Ohio, followed by a luncheon at the Lytton-Zion Church of Christ (12892 County Rd. 5) in Delta, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Swanton Christian Food Pantry (address: 105 Lincoln Avenue Swanton, OH 43558).

Daniel’s passing leaves a hole in the hearts of all who knew him, but his legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched. We find comfort in knowing that he is now in the arms of his Savior, at peace, and free from pain.
