Luella Rockey (1928 – 2023)

Luella M. Rockey, 95 of Montpelier, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023 surrounded by her family. She began and ended her journey in the same home that she lived in her entire life.

She was born on May 18, 1928 to Harvey and Clara (Henry) Scott, Sr.  In 1946 she graduated from Montpelier High School.

On December 5, 1947 Luella married Donald D. Rockey at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Montpelier. Church and St. John’s was of utmost importance to Luella.


She was involved in The Women of the Church, Altar Guild, Meals on Wheels, taught Sunday School for 21 years, a member of the prayer sisters, organizer of funeral dinners and shared duties of the quilting circle.

Surviving are two daughters, Beverly (William) Psurny of Montpelier and Cindy (Timothy) Hollander of Littleton, Colorado; eight grandchildren Stacy (Kyle) Sapp, Shelby (Dustin) Everetts, Stefanie (Andy) Brigle, Brian Psurny, Shane (Julie) Psurny, Jenny (Dana, II) Bersch, Kelly (Brian) Straub, and John (Amanda) Hollander; great grandchildren, Kaden, Kelby, and Kyler Sapp, Cooper, Brady and Addison Everetts, Meghan and Carter Psurny, Haley Psurny, Ada and Cam Straub, Dana, III and Josephine Bersch, and Beck and Lucy Hollander; and great great grandson Koby Sapp.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sons Theodore and Lyle D. Rockey, two sisters Carma Kumnick and Lucile Scott and brother Harvey Scott.


Visitation hours will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 from 2-6 pm at the Thompson Funeral Home on Main Street in Montpelier. Services will be held on Wednesday at 11 am at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Pastor George Zornow to officiate. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier.
