On September 5, 2024 agents from the Multi-Area Narcotics Task Force, along with agents from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) responded to the report of an illegal marijuana grow in Mark Township, Defiance County, Ohio.

Seized were approximately 35 marijuana plants. A file will be presented to the Defiance County Prosecuting Attorney for consideration of charges related to illegal cultivation of marijuana.

The Multi-Area Narcotics Task Force would like to remind residents of the six-county area that marijuana cultivation continues to be regulated by state law, specifically Ohio Revised Code section 3780.29 Home Grow. In particular the following acts by an adult over the age of21 are lawful:

  1. Cultivating, growing, and possessing not more than six cannabis plants at the individual’s primary residence, if all the following apply:
    1. Not more than 12 cannabis plants are cultivated or grown at a single residence where two or more individuals who are at least twenty-one years of age reside at any one time; and
    2. Cultivation or growing of adult use cannabis only takes place within a secured closet, room, greenhouse, or other enclosed area in or on the grounds of the residence that prevents access by individuals less than twenty-one years of age, and which is not visible by normal unaided vision from a public space.

The Multi-Area Narcotics Task Force covers the counties of Defiance, Henry, Fulton, Paulding, Putnam, and Williams.
