M. Karen Smith (1948 – 2018)

M. Karen Smith, age 69, of Delta and recently of Defiance; with her family by her side passed away at St. Charles Hospital in Toledo on Thursday, January 25, 2018. Karen was born in Toledo on December 23, 1948 to the late Reed Baker and Sally (Zuber) Baker, who survives.   Karen was a graduate of McAuley High School in Toledo.  Before retiring, she served many years in the collections department at First Federal Savings and Loan of Delta.  Karen was a gifted green thumb with a true passion for gardening.  She also enjoyed shopping at thrift stores, loving on her pets and most of all spending quality time with her family.  Karen is survived by her mother, Sally; daughters, Gretchen (Troy) Overmier of Liberty Center, Holly Gors of Archbold and Bridget (Tyler) Murphy of Defiance; brother, Tom (Lori) Baker of Manistee, MI; sisters, Sue Baker of Swanton and Sharon (Tim) Moccabee of Monclova; grandchildren, Alexis, Christopher, Andrew, Kaleb and Kameron (along with a new grandchild on the way) and great grandson, Aaron.  In addition to her father, Reed Baker, she was preceded in death by her son, Andy Gors in 1996.

There will be a time of visitation for Karen on Monday, January 29, 2018 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Barnes Funeral Chapel, 5825 St Hwy 109, in Delta; where a funeral service honoring her life will begin at 10:00 AM on Tuesday also at the funeral home.  Fr. Adam Hertzfeld will be officiating.  Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Delta.  In lieu of flowers, those wishing a show of sympathy are asked to consider contributions to a local humane society of their choice in Karen’s memory.  Online condolences may be sent to the family through our website at www.barnesfuneralchapel.com.
