Metamora Council Appoints John Pupos To Fill Vacant Seat

Metamora Council met in regular session Monday, September 12, 2016 at 7:00 p.m.

Council members present: Council president Karon Lane, John Hudik, Richard Sauerlender, Justin Kreischer and Suzie Stough

Other officials present: Mayor Ken Wysong and VFO Sue Clendenin

Guests: John Pupos, Kenna Elizardo and Amber Moore-Espinoza


A vacancy on the Metamora Village Council did not last long.

The council appointed John Pupos to fill the seat vacated by Andrew Carr. Pupos had expressed interest in the opening. Pupos’s term will expire Dec. 31, 2017.

The council scheduled a public information meeting on the half-mill Park levy for 6:30 p.m., Oct. 17 at the village office. The issue will also be dealt with in the community newsletter.


Fiscal Officer’s report
•Council waived a hearing on the transfer of a liquor license from Heather Mulinix to Kurt Peebles. Council waived the park shelter fee for Amber Moore-Espinoza who reserved one for a benefit for Bob Moore family.

•The hours at the Recycle Center will remain unrestricted despite reports some people are leaving trash. To keep snow out the overhead door will be closed during the winter months and opened in the spring. Residents will be able to enter through the side door during winter months.

•Motion required waiving Budget Hearing and accepting apportionment of Undivided Local Government Fund, and accepting the sum of $20,690.43 for Undivided Local Government Fund and agreeing to Fulton County Budget Commission alternate plan of apportionment of the Local Government Fund on the basis of need and prior year’s apportionment.

•Amboy Township would like to know the hourly fee for leaf pick up this fall. Charged $95 last year. It will remain unchanged.


•Ordinance 937 – Renewing agreement between ODOT & Metamora for 3-year Bridge Inspection Program. Current agreement ends Dec. 31,. Justin Kreischer motioned to suspend the rules, renewing bridge inspection agreement with ODOT for three years.

•Fall Newsletter- reviewed draft made revisions and approved to form. To be mailed out first week of October.

•Zoning Position – with Steve Brown’s impending resignation, the Personnel & Finance committee interviewed Dennis Brown and recommend hiring him to replace Brown. Sue said Dennis Brown called the office this morning and declined the position, stating too busy at this time to schedule regular office hours. Clerks to put out local feelers, if unsuccessful P&F will discuss placing an ad in the paper.

•Park-O-Rama – committee scheduled to meet Tuesday, September 13 at 7:00 p.m. at the village offices. This year’s event financials are showing a profit of $5,400. Discussed adding additional events for adults.

•Reviewed official general election ballot for residents of Metamora.

•Past Mayor George Flack recently passed away. Sent $50 donation to each the VFW National Home for Children and the Berkey Congregational Christian Church.

•Trick-or-Treating – will be 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31with the annual Village Halloween Party at the Fire Station on Mill Street from 6 to 8 p.m. All area children and their parents are invited to attend and enjoy complimentary donuts, hot dogs and drinks.

Mayor’s Report
•Three sections of sidewalk on East Main Street may be heaving due to water shut-off valves, Mayor Wysong said. Fulton County Utilities Director Ziad Musallam suggested pulling concrete to see who is responsible to repair. New valves were placed in newly installed meter pits so can old valve sleeves be removed. Sauerlender suggested asking NEWS to remove sleeves from old system.

•Maumee Valley Planning inviting elected officials to a Rural Consultation meeting at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4 in the auditorium of NW State Community College in Archbold.
