The Metamora Village Council held their meeting on Monday, March 7th at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was called to order followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Council first moved to hear an introduction from Mikael Stiles.

He has taken over for Rick Meiring who was the Operator of Record for village wastewater. He is also the full-time superintendent for the Village of Swanton’s wastewater plant. He will be checking on both pump stations and lagoons as required.

Council then heard from Trevor Shindorf and Rusty Carr from the Evergreen Youth Association. The pair were present to discuss plans for the upcoming season and requested to have priority use for the ball fields.

The EYA will also run concession stands and will look into the cost of a permit to serve food. Council moved to let the EYA have use of the ball fields this year at no cost.

EYA members also asked to have use of the lights in order to have games at night. Council agreed and stated that they will look into what it will take to get them working again.

Council then moved to approve the minutes from the previous meeting that took place on February 22nd. Bills were also read before council moved to approve the payment for bills as presented.

In the Solicitors report, Mr. Whitlock stated that he had reviewed the contract for smoke testing of the sewer lines and that everything looks good to sign.

In old business, Council moved to approve the Third Reading of Ordinance 2022-02 in order to hire Kevin Whitlock as the Village Solicitor and Prosecutor. Council also moved to pass Ordinance 2022-05 under an emergency measure.

The Ordinance was regarding a contract with CT Consultants and was passed. Next was the First Reading of Ordinance 2022-06 for the signing of a contract with ODOT for a bridge replacement on State Route 120.
An engineer’s report was received from John Crockett who’s building is currently in violation of a village ordinance.

Kevin Whitlock will look over the report as presented and will give guidance at a later date. The matter was tabled until April. Members are still needed for the Zoning Appeals Board. A suggestion was made to ask if Jim Malburg is interested.

Council member John Pupos then informed council that he is looking into getting prices for a new lawn mower.

He will be taking the old lawn mower to Bills Service in Blissfield, Michigan to get a trade-in quote and a price for a new Exmark Mower.

Council stated that they would also like to look into selling the bagger for the old mower.

It was stated that Dustin Ott had reached out with an interest in buying the bagger. Council agreed to allow Mr. Ott to buy the bagger at the trade-in value amount.

For the Fiscal Officer’s report, it was stated that the Habitec Security codes have not been updated in some time. With several new employees, Fiscal Officer Heather reached out to them for help with updates.

Habitec made the suggestion of upgrading the system to a cellular model for $99.00 which council approved. Larry Engle was in contact and stated that he is interested in buying property outside the village limits but would like it annexed.

He was referred to the county for water with no sewer options being available.

Council then moved to pay for Fiscal Officer Heather Lumbrezer to go to the Fulton County Economic Development Banquet that is taking place on Thursday, April 21st.

A Fulton County Tax Incentive Review Council Meeting will also be taking place on March 23rd as well as an Annual Health District Advisory Council meeting on March 29th.

Ahrianna McCabe and Lucy Serna are having a color run to benefit RAINN which is an organization that helps victims of sexual assault.

It is currently scheduled for Saturday, March 26th in the park. More details will be available at the next meeting.

The Chamber of Commerce meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 8th at 5:30 p.m. at the Country Charm Café. Details of the Park-O-Rama will be discussed then with some members of council also attending.

Council then entered into executive session at 8:10 p.m. to discuss employee/personal issues. Executive session ended at 8:36 p.m. with council then moving to adjourn at 8:50 p.m.
