MILLCREEK-WEST UNITY BOARD OF EDUCATION: Board Approves Weight Room Equipment Donations

A summary of the regular meeting of the Millcreek-West Unity Local Board of Education of Monday, February 13, 2023 was provided by Superintendent Jim Wyse of Millcreek – West Unity Local School District.

President Heather Jones called the meeting to order at 6:01 p.m., with all board members in attendance. Mr. Riley gave the H.S. Principal’s Report.

Mr. Wyse gave the Elementary Report for Mr. Mansfield, who was not in attendance.

The board approved the consent agenda:


-Approved the minutes, Financial Statements and Investments from the January 2023 Board of Education meetings.

-Approved the Resolution accepting the amounts and rates as determined by the Budget Commission and authorizing the necessary tax levies and certifying them to the County Auditor.

-Authorized 2023-2024 membership in the Ohio High School Athletic Association.


-Approved the following Graduate Study Reimbursement: Tony Gerig– EDU6350 – Cyber Safety for Teachers- Ashland University- Fall Semester – 1 semester hour.

-Approved the resignations of: Goodwin Owusu – Safo as E-sports Assistant Advisor; Kaiden Clendenin – Assistant Baseball Coach.

-Approved the following donations: Farmers & Merchants State Bank: $5,000 for weight room equipment; Phil and Sydney Fogel: $250 for weight room equipment; Tim Fogle: $250 for weight room equipment; Fraternal Order of Eagles, Bryan Branch: $5,000 for weight room equipment; MillCreek – West Unity area foundation: $2,500 for weight room equipment; North Star BlueScope Steel LLC: $25,000 for weight room equipment; Red Hen Country Market: $500 for weight room equipment; Steven and Jenny Riley: $500 for weight room equipment; James and Sandra Rupp: $1,000 for weight room equipment; Spangler Candy Company: $2,500 for weight room equipment; Jim and Diane Wyse: $1,000 for weight room equipment

-Approved the following overnight stays: Varsity Softball Team – March 24th – March 26th, 2023 in Cincinnati, Ohio; Midwest GLOBE Student Research Symposium – April 21 – April 23, 2023 at University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin. – Specific 8th grade students who complete a science fair project dealing with water quality or surface temperature content.


-Approved the following employments for 2022-2023 – pending receipt of all credentials and required background checks: Alex Cummins – Esports Assistant Advisor; Desiree Arps- Assistant Track; Corey Eisel – Assistant Track; Shawn Blaisdell- JH Track Coach; Justin Wiyrick- JH Track Coach; Jeremy Hartman- Assistant Baseball Coach; Kaiden Clendenin- Volunteer Baseball Coach; Marlene Clark- Substitute in the Cafeteria.

The board entered Into executive session at 6:14 p.m. along with Jim Wyse and Tracy Thompson, for the purpose of preparing for, conducting, or reviewing negotiations or bargaining sessions with public employees, with no action taken following session.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:38 p.m.

The next regular Board meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 13th, 2023, and will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the library.
