Montpelier Drops Conference Game Against Evergreen

February 2, 2015Updated:December 31, 2020No Comments2 Mins Read

(January30th, 2015) – MONTPELIER: A disastrous first quarter sealed the Locos’ fate early in their home North Western Ohio Athletic League bout with Evergreen.

Montpelier was outscored 16-3 in the opening period of the game. And while they were able to follow up that lackluster performance with a decent showing in each of the next three quarters, the Locomotives were never able to make up any ground on the Vikings. The hometown boys lost the contest 62-48.

The second quarter saw Montpelier find its offense, scoring 11 points in that span. Still, their defense continued to have issues as Evergreen put up 14 more points of their own before the half. Then, in the third period, a 9 point outing for the Loco boys was overtaken as the Viking boys scored 15. Finally, in the last stanza of the evening, the Locomotives’ offense steamrolled over the Evergreen defense, lighting up the scoreboard for 25 points. This made little difference in the final outcome, however, as Evergreen added 17 more points in the quarter as well.

Kyrin Schuman and Jacob Leung led Montpelier with 12 points apiece. Schuman earned all of his points at the three-point line, knocking down a quartet of triples. Leung did most of his work from inside the arc, though he did connect on a three as well. Senior Nate McCord worked the inside as he earned 9 points the hard way.
