(April 27th, 2015) – SWANTON: Montpelier set off on the long trek eastward on 20A to take on fellow North Western Ohio Athletic League team Swanton in conference play on Monday, April 27. The state ranked Bulldogs proved to be too much for the Locomotives to handle, as the contest was called after six innings.

The Loco boys lost to Swanton, 10-0.

For the first two innings of play, the scoreboard remained bare. It wasn’t until the third inning that the Bulldogs earned their first run, putting Montpelier in an early 1-0 deficit. The Locomotives were unable to mount a response, and saw their hosts rack up 4 more runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. After holding the Locomotive boys without a run in the top of the sixth, a single run in the bottom half of the inning was all that was needed to the end the game prematurely.

Four players registered hits for the Locos. Colin Rockey went 1 for 2 from the plate. Meanwhile, Cody Caudill, Jared Shoup, and Dalton Surbey all had 1 for 3 showings from within the batter’s box.

Caudill took the loss from the mound. The senior pitched for 4 innings, allowing 5 runs from 6 hits. He also struck out 4 Bulldog batters, walking just 1 more.
