(April 27th, 2015) – SWANTON: The Lady Locos continued their winning ways as they took on North Western Ohio Athletic League foe Swanton in road competition on Monday, April 27. After gaining an early advantage, the Locomotives had to come from behind to earn the victory over the Lady Bulldogs.

When the contest was finished, the scoreboard read 4-2, in favor of Montpelier.

Starting strong on the field of their opponent, The Locos struck first with a 1 run first inning. The Bulldogs would wait until the bottom of the third before retaliating, scoring their first run of the game to tie things up. Another run by Swanton in the fourth inning, placing the Montpelier girls in a 2-1 hole.

They wouldn’t stay behind for very long, however. The fifth inning saw the Lady Locomotives have a 3 run showing, regaining the advantage. With no more scoring taking place in the course of the final two innings, that 2 run lead would hold up for the Loco win.

Christy Duchene knocked in a Montpelier base runner on an RBI single for the Locomotives. The senior girl went 1 for 4 from the batter’s box. Also going 1 for 4 at the plate, Landri McKelvey hit an RBI single as well. Haley Suffel and Breanna Stein also earned singles, with each girl connecting with the ball on 1 of their 4 plate appearances. Senior standout Sidney Houk, with yet another 1-4 performance, hit for a triple.

Stein handled pitching duties for Montpelier in addition to her batting contributions. Throwing for all seven innings, the senior allowed just 2 runs off of 5 hits in that span. She struck out 5 batters, while walking 2 more in the victory.
