The Montpelier Park Board meeting, held April 2nd, opened with a spring update from the girls’ softball representatives. They stated that 123 girls have signed up for softball this summer, which is an increase from last year.

They will also be sponsoring some travel teams to play as well. They thanked the generous community for their donations which enabled them to build a new press box during the winter months. The first game is set for April 7th.

The board moved on to approve the minutes of last month’s meeting, which was approved with no added changes. The financial statement and paying of bills was also approved.

Thanks to the donations from the Eagles and the Moose of Montpelier, the cost for 2025 pool admission has been covered.

Board member Brent Saneholtz expresses his gratitude for the $3,500 given by each business. “We have a great community,” agreed Recreation Director Sandy Gordon.

Nick Ramos, Park Manager, proceeded with the park and pool maintenance update. He personally made sure that everything in the park is insured under the Ohio Plan Insurance.

He also noted the changing of the weathered flags on Main Street and in the park itself. Ramos is still collecting lifeguard applications and is also looking for a pool manager.

He ordered two new scoreboards for the ballfields and is working on the annual park report for the Board.

The Recreation Monthly Report, given by Gordon, focused on the upcoming spring and summer events for the local children.

She has complied and sent in insurance numbers to Beck Insurance for accident insurance coverage for the ball teams. This will take effect April 1st of 2025. The program guide and community calendar will be ready for printing the first week of the month.

She also has been conducting concession stand interviews and has already hired six new staff members. Gordon thanked the donation from Drop Tine of leftover paper products for the summer lunch program.

The All-American Selection plants for the Kid’s Garden is due in the week of April 14th. The planting of new seeds and the maintenance of old ones has officially begun for the spring season.

She has also scheduled Heidi Paxton, local musician, for the Spring Soiree in downtown Montpelier. This is set to take place May 10th, from 10:30am to 1:30pm.

The board approved the Corner Baptist Church Easter Egg Hunt for Friday, April 18th at 4 p.m. in Storrer Park.

They mentioned additional projects such as the building of a fence behind Kommon Kravings, five dog waste stations to be built across the town and trails, and an update of the Montpelier Pool Manual. The meeting was adjourned at 7:27pm.
