SWANTON – After spending the last five seasons as an assistant under Andy Brungard at Anthony Wayne, his second stint with the Generals, Nate McAfee has been tabbed as the next head football coach at Swanton.
McAfee is a 1996 graduate of Toledo Bowsher High School and played college football at the University of Dayton from 1996-2000.
McAfee, who is a teacher at Whitehouse Primary, has coaching stops at Bowsher and Springfield on his resume to go with his time at Anthony Wayne.
“What attracted me to the Swanton High School football job opening was the community. The people in Swanton are close and tight knit”, said McAfee.
“Everyone I have met from Swanton has been nice, kind, loyal and friendly. I was looking for a smaller community and school district to become head coach of, because most smaller communities take a lot of pride in their athletic events and have a great following.”
He takes over a Swanton program that hasn’t enjoyed much success lately going 4-45 over the last five seasons and 1-34 in the NWOAL during that time, with their last league win coming in 2019.
“We need to develop a new culture and attitude while enjoying the game”, stated McAfee when detailing his vision for the program going forward.
“We need to increase participation, create confidence within our players and establish our system at the junior high level, up to varsity level.”
“Most importantly, we will represent our school, parents, alumni, and community with pride and dignity”, McAfee added.
McAfee replaces Eric Keller who resigned after going 1-19 in two seasons.
