On Tuesday, August 12, 2025, North Central Local Schools announced a reduction in transportation routes this school year as part of broader adjustments to address ongoing financial challenges.
According to Superintendent Michael L. Bute, the decision followed multiple unsuccessful attempts to increase revenue through ballot measures, leaving the district to reduce expenditures.
The transportation changes bring the district in line with the state’s minimum service requirement, limiting busing to only students who live more than two miles from school.
Bute acknowledged that the timing of the change was not ideal, as school is scheduled to begin August 15, 202.
The final determination could not be made until an accurate count of bus riders living outside the two-mile radius was available.
He apologized for the inconvenience and thanked families for their patience and understanding as the district worked through the challenges.
Despite the changes, Bute said the district remains committed to providing the best possible education while maintaining financial stability and will continue offering high-quality opportunities to the students of North Central.
