North Central Tops Lady Locos In Williams County Softball Tussle

PIONEER – Neighboring rivals North Central and Montpelier hooked up on April 2nd for a diamond battle. After going back on forth on the scoreboard, the Eagles plated six runners in the bottom of the fifth inning and held off a final rally by Montpelier to top the Lady Locos 9-7.[emember_protected custom_msg=”Full content protected for online subscribers. Madison Messner picked up the complete game win for North Central allowing seven runs on seven hits, fanned one and walked eight over the seven innings.

Lauren Dye suffered the defeat for Montpelier surrendering nine runs on 12 base knocks, struck out five and did not issue a free pass to first.

Rachel Oxender led the offensive charge for the Eagles doubling and singling to collect 3 RBI, while Hollie Hernandez stroked two singles and a double to drive in two runs. Bralyn Wyrick also singled twice and doubled to knock one run home.

McKayla Swank picked up a pair of RBI with a single, and Messner added three base hits. The win evens the Eagles record at 1-1.

Dye helped her cause with a double, while Hayley Suffel singled twice. Wendy Duchene, Sidney Houk, Marinna Mercer, and Regan Steffes all singled for the Locos who stand at 0-1 overall.
