He was followed to the center of the diamond by Hilltop senior hurler, Kacie Hodson, as play got underway.
A combination of cold temperatures and strong winds out of the west made for a considerable chunk of unearned runs, but the Lady Cadet offense was able to overcome ten gaffes to get the win. Edgerton went up 9-7 in the sixth, but the Ladies in Red responded with two in the home half of the inning to tie the game. Hodson slammed the door in the seventh, while her offense plated a run in the bottom of the inning to take the opening day win.
Hodson allowed 9 runs, only one being earned, on 6 hits and 5 walks, fanning 2 in the complete game effort.
Sydney Schmitt went 4 for 5 at the plate with a double and 2 RBIs for Hilltop, while Leah Thompson was 2 for 4 with a double and 4 RBIs. Brooke Chapin was 3 for 3 with a double and 2 RBIs, Hannah Bleikamp was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, and Taylor Batt and Brittney Mocherman each had a single.
