Northwestern Ohio Community Action Introduces New Emergency Service Appointment Hotline

Northwestern Ohio Community Action has added a new system for appointment scheduling. The IVR system (Interactive Voice Response) will be used for scheduling all emergency service appointments. Emergency Services are provided for Defiance, Fulton, Henry, Paulding , Van Wert and Williams Counties. Client’s may now schedule his or her own appointments for HEAP, PIPP, Winter Crisis, Weatherization and other Emergency assistance by calling 1-844-493-1193.

Benefits of the IVR system:
•Clients will no longer have to wait for a return call. The IVR system is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
•Clients can make appointment based on the county office most convenient for them
•Eligibility requirements and general information such as office hours, holiday schedule, driving directions, etc. will be given
•Clients will receive a reminder text or phone call about their appointment
•Live operator will still be available for those with special circumstances

Northwestern Ohio Community Action Commission will begin utilizing the IVR system starting this Winter Crisis program season. The Winter Crisis program provides financial assistance to income-eligible households that are threatened with disconnection of their heating source; have already had service disconnected; need to establish new service or pay to transfer service; or in the case of bulk fuel customers, have 25 percent or less of the tank’s fuel capacity on hand. The Winter Crisis Program also allows assistance with furnace repair. The WCP year runs from November 1 to March 31. Clients may begin calling 1-844-493-1193 to make appointment for the Winter Crisis program on October 25, 2016.

Northwestern Ohio Community Action Commission will also offer new designated walk in hours. Clients will have the option of walking in for an appointment. Walk-in appointments will be seen on a first come first serve basis and only a limited number of appointments will be taken during the specified time. Walk in hours will be Tuesday’s 8:15am-10:00 am and Thursday’s 2-4pm. Clients must have all required documents in order to be seen.

Required Documents:
•Citizenship Proof (Birth Certificates) or Legal Resident status for everyone in the household
•Income proof for the past 90 days, for all members in the household
•Social Security Cards
•Most recent electric bill and gas bill
•Proof of Disability ( if applicable)

To schedule an appointment, please call 1-844-493-1193. If you have question about eligibility you may call your local CAC office.
