BRYAN (April 22, 2024) – Coming off a 10-1 loss to Evergreen in their previous NWOAL game, the Bryan Golden Bears faced a near must win game to stay in the league race.
Bryan did just that as Carter Dominique fired a one-hitter while adding two doubles at the plate in a 5-0 win over Archbold.
The win, combined with previously league unbeaten Evergreen’s loss at Swanton, puts three teams (Archbold, Bryan, Evergreen) at the top of the NWOAL with one loss each after Monday night’s league games.
Bryan was able to give Dominique some run support early by jumping on Archbold starter Jayden Seiler in the first inning.
The first two Golden Bear batters reached base as Noah Huard would single to right followed by a Jase Kepler walk.
Dominique then helped his own cause with a line drive double to center to bring home Huard for a 1-0 lead with Kepler advancing to third.
Seiler would then get the first out of the inning by inducing a groundout to third by Cade Carlin that scored Kepler and advanced Dominique to third and made the score 2-0.
Lazarus Lane capped off the Bryan scoring in the inning with a two-out RBI single as the Bryan lead stood at 3-0 when the dust settled after the first inning.
The bottom of the second opened with Camden Bukowski reaching on error, Elijah Fry singled and Huard sacrificed back to the pitcher to give Bryan runners at second and third with one out.
Kepler then delivered the big hit of the inning with a two-run single to right to push the lead to 5-0.
That was plenty of runs for Dominique to work with as he allowed just three Archbold base runners over the last five innings and just one hit with Jett Baun providing the only Bluestreak hit of the night on an infield single in the fifth.
Lane, Kepler, and Dominique each finished with two hits on the night and Dominique totaled nine strikeouts on the mound.
Seiler took the loss for Archbold after going four innings, allowing five runs on six hits with four strikeouts.
