ARCHBOLD (October 10, 2025) – After going down 21-7 under constant pressure from the Patrick Henry Patriots’ defensive line, the Archbold Bluestreaks staged a comeback in the second half to seize victory at home in a 22-21 barn burner on Friday night.

Archbold received to start the contest but was unable to break past midfield, punting after six plays. Patrick Henry gained five yards on a run before junior Kiefer Holloway found room on a run and took it the remaining 83 yards for a touchdown. A successful point after by freshman Aiden Gerken put the Patriots up 7-0.

The Bluestreaks got the ball back but again failed to pass midfield, punting on fourth and 13 after four plays and a false start, giving the Patriots the ball at their own 43-yard line.

The Patriots were equally unsuccessful, forced to punt on fourth and 18. Archbold continued the pattern with a punt on fourth down and long to give Patrick Henry the ball on their own 31-yard line.

On their next drive, the Patriots started to find a rhythm, aided by an early facemask penalty against Archbold. By the end of the first quarter, they were at the Archbold 40-yard line.

Four runs by senior Cal Schroeder totaling 17 yards, a run and a lateral pass to senior Jaidan Rutter totaling four yards, and an eight-yard pass to Holloway brought them to within one yard, where Rutter stepped up again, running it in for the touchdown. Gerken missed the subsequent point after, bringing the score to 13-0.

Not ready to sit idly by and watch the game get away from them, the Bluestreaks found steam and started marching downfield. A run by, pitch to, and pass to junior Ryder Ryan, followed up by a pass to sophomore Anderson Bentley, brought them to the Patrick Henry 13-yard line.

A 10-yard loss on the following play was erased with a pass interference penalty against the Patriots, which brought them back to the 12.

Sophomore quarterback Maddox Pinter held the ball on the following play to get to the 1-yard line, where, after a failed run up the middle by senior Ashton Stuckey, Ryan took a pitch to the outside for the first Archbold touchdown. Sophomore kicker Quinn Sauder put it through the uprights to put the score at 13-7.

Patrick Henry wasn’t ready to give up the momentum of the game that quickly and put together another string of successful downs to make it well past midfield.

There, Holloway took a 35-yard pass for his second and the team’s third touchdown. A successful two-point conversion, direct snap to Schroeder brought their lead to 21-7 at halftime.

When the Patriots got the ball back to start the second half, they put together three consecutive first-down plays, then worked their way to the Bluestreak 11-yard line.

After being penalized for a false start, the call was made to go for it on fourth and 11 instead of kicking a field goal. An incomplete pass resulted in the ball turning over on downs.

Another Archbold drive relying heavily on Ryan and junior Aranjer Krieger chewed up yardage as they steamrolled their way to the Patrick Henry 15-yard line.

Bentley then broke tackles and put a spin move on another defender to make it to the end zone. Despite a bobbled snap on the point after, the kick was good and the Bluestreaks closed the distance to 21-14.

After a three and out by Patrick Henry, the Bluestreaks seemed to start poorly, going to first and 17 after a penalty for blocking in the back crossed them back over to their own side of the field, but two consecutive first-down plays – again to Ryan and Krieger – plus a one-yard direct-snap run by junior Jarett Rufenacht, led to a 21-yard pass to junior Morgan Harris, who brought the ball down in coverage for another touchdown.

Archbold initially went for the extra point, but an offside penalty against Patrick Henry moved the ball to the two-yard line, so they chose to go for the conversion. Rufenacht repeated his last play, carrying it in for the Bluestreaks to take the lead, 22-21.

Patrick Henry got the ball back and found themselves at midfield crossing into the final quarter, but a three-yard play was followed up by an interception by Archbold sophomore Collin Short.

They were unable to capitalize on the opportunity, as three plays brought up fourth and five, and junior Patriot Gus Meyer knocked down a pass to turn it over on downs.

The Patriots put together what looked like a successful drive, grinding all the way to the Archbold nine-yard line.

A fumble on the snap was recovered for a loss of a yard, junior quarterback Tristen Rosebrook was tackled mid-pass by Archbold junior Hunter Warner, and the drive ended when Gerken missed a 28-yard field goal attempt.

After a single first down due to a facemask penalty against the Patriots, the Bluestreaks were pushed back to fourth and 23, but were able to force the Patriots to use their two remaining timeouts in the process.

Patrick Henry was initially able to make progress, stopping the clock by getting the ball out of bounds and only using a few seconds per play, but after just four plays, junior quarterback Tristen Rosebrook threw his second interception of the night to seal the win for the Streaks.
