Orra Vollmer (1928-2018)

Orra A. Vollmer, age 90, of Wauseon, passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2018, at the Fulton Manor nursing home in Wauseon.

He was born on May 16, 1928, the son of the late Fred J. and Stella (Leitner) Vollmer.  On July 16, 1949, he married his high school sweetheart, Doris Jean Rashley, and she preceded him in death on February 11, 2014.

Orra was a graduate of Wauseon High School and prior to his retirement, He worked at Toledo Edison for 40-plus years as a Groundman.  He entered the United States Marine Corp. in January of 1952, serving in the Korean War.

Orra was a lifelong member of First Christian Church in Wauseon, where he served as a past deacon and elder.  He was also a lifetime member of both the American Legion and Marine Corp. League, a member of the I.B.E.W. and the N.B.E.W., a past Master in the Masonic Lodge, a 4-H Advisor, and a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite.


Orra is survived by his children, Doug (Karen) Vollmer and Kimberly (Burton, Jr.) Haviland; grandchildren, Jennifer (Sean) Clarke, Daniel (Nancy) Vollmer, Geoffrey (Jackie) Vollmer, and Desiree (Luke) Haviland; eight great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews – to include special niece Deb Villalovos.  He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, granddaughter, Shawna Haviland, great-grandson, Michael Vollmer; sisters, Pauline Gamble and Audrey Jeppesen; and brothers, Leroy Vollmer and an infant brother.

Funeral services for Orra will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the First Christian Church in Wauseon, with Pastor Michael Doerr and Pastor Mary Bray, officiating.  Visitation will be held on Friday, October 19, 2018, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, also at First Christian Church.  Inurnment will be private.  Those wishing a monetary donation in Orra’s memory are asked to consider Sufficient Grace Ministries.
