Millcreek-West Unity School Board Accepts Multiple Donations

The Millcreek-West Unity Board of Education held their meeting on Monday June 28th, at 6pm. The meeting was called to order by President Heather Jones. A roll call was ordered, and all were present.

The Board was presented with the annual cafeteria report, business advisory council meeting minutes from March 9th and the second semester bullying report.

The following issues were discussed from the current agenda.

The Financial Statements and Investments minutes from the May 2021 meeting were approved. A transfer was made of $138.65 to cover negative lunch balances. Approval was given to participate in NOVA, digital curriculum through Northern Buckeye Education Council for the 2021-2022 school year.

Participation in federal programs for the coming school year including CCIP grants and Lunch and Breakfast programs were approved. Insurance for the school district was approved for a cost of $28,803.

Approval was given to the treasurer to be covered by an Employee Dishonesty and Faithful Performance Policy provided by the Ohio School Plan. NWOCA membership fees for Fiscal Year 2022 were approved at an amount of $29,152.66.

Approval was given to participate in the Early Childhood Special Education Consortium with NWOESC. Technical services and Cost Agreements with NWOCA were approved.

An agreement was made the Northwest Ohio Juvenile Detention, Training and Rehabilitation Center for education services for a cost of $44 per day. An agreement was made with North Central

Local Schools for School Nurse Services of the 2022 Fiscal year for a total of $27,728.09. Membership with the Ohio Coalition for Equity and Adequacy for the 2022 Fiscal year was also approved for an amount of $300.

A correction was made to reflect the adult lunch price of $3.85. This increase was approved at the October 19th, 2020, board meeting as a requirement from the ODE, Food and Nutrition.

The following donations were approved: $500 from Jane Hutchinson for the Mary Gares Suter Scholarship; $2,000 from Judy Rand for the Mary Thomas Scholarship; $4,000 from Rose Stough for the Mary Thomas Scholarship; “Tales of the Diary Godmother” by Viola Butler from the Williams County Farm Bureau; $30 from the Hilltop Class of 1962 to the Highschool Band in memory of Paul G. Nowak; $1,000 from Christian Woman United Thrift Shop Scholarship for the class of 2022.

A memorandum of Understanding was made with the Defiance College for the Hosting of Teachers Education Candidates for the 2021-2022 school year.

A clinical affiliation agreement was also made with the Northwest State Community College for the college nursing program. School workbook fees and student/parent handbooks were approved for the coming school year.

The Board approved resignations from Kiel Miller who was the Assistant Football Coach and Nancy Myers is a school bus driver until July 31st, 2021. Supplemental and Employment contracts were then approved.

The Board approved the elimination of the resolution suspending public participation and limiting the number of guests during public meetings that was approved at the May 11th, 2020 meeting.

Authorization was given to negotiate an agreement with Beilharz Architects Inc. to design and oversee an addition to the K-12 facility.

Mr. Wieland wished Mrs. Carothers a Happy Birthday and the meeting adjourned at 6:10pm. The next regular meeting of the Board of Education is scheduled for July, 19th 2021 at 6pm.
