STRYKER 1/10/2014—Despite a 21 point performance from Stryker’s Chirstie Huston, it was the Pettisville Lady Blackbirds who came away victorious over the Lady Panthers of Stryker in Buckeye Border Conference action, downing the Panthers by a score of 52-43.
The Blackbirds lead 18-12 after one quarter of action. Pettisville’s shooting was superb in the contest, making 18 of their 32 attempts from the field for a 58 percent shooting percentage. Compare that to Stryker who was took 42 shots, but were only able to make 14 of those attempts for a shooting percentage of 33 percent.
Stryker narrowed the Blackbird lead to three at the half, outscoring Pettisville 8-5 in the second quarter. At the intermission, the scoreboard read 23-20 in favor of the Blackbirds.
The Blackbirds also held a slight edge on the boards, outrebounding the Panthers 25-22. This narrow edge would help Pettisville to expand their lead in the third period of play, outscoring Stryker 15-8 in the third quarter, and pushing their lead 38-28 as the third quarter came to a close.
The turnover battle also favored Pettisville, as Stryker turned the ball over 13 times, with Pettisville turning it over 11 times. These extra possessions would lead to the Blackbirds sealing 52-43 victory in the final quarter of action.
For Stryker, Christie Huston lead the scoring with 21 points, followed by Conner Sullivan who put up 11, Conner Varner contributed nine, and Ashley Haines rounded out the Panther scoring with two.
The Blackbirds were lead with 15 points by Lauren Hostetler, Dana Fricke followed with 14, Audra Klopfenstein was next with nine, Jordyn Pursel banked six, Mikala Avina scored five, and Kate Kauffman finished the contest with three.
Stryker is now 6-6 with the loss, and Pettisville moves to 9-3 with the win.
