PETTISVILLE: May 8 – The Ladybird Dynasty lives on…with a flourish.
The 2014 BBC Junior High Championship meet brought all six schools together to the track in Pettisville, but only one of those teams came into the event with significant team strength and a desire to maintain the status quo…and they didn’t have to travel very far to get there. That team was the hometown Lady Blackbirds, who arrived at the event as the defending champions, five times over.
With the aforementioned pedigree, it would be tough to unseat the Ladybirds. The five other teams of the BBC gave it a great shot, but there was just too much Pettisville. For the sixth time in as many years, the Ladybirds carried home the BBC crown in a dominating performance, with a busted record added for good measure.
Pettisville outgunned second place Edon by a century mark, 170-70, with North Central in third with 60 points. Stryker finished with 55 points, Hilltop had 43, and Fayette finished sixth with 32 points.
The exclamation point came in the 4×100 relay where the Ladybirds sent Kendi Nofziger, Kendall Pursel, Sarah Herring and Kyra Behnfeldt into the fray. The Pettisville relayers posted a time of 55.8 seconds, not just good for the win, but also good for the BBC girls’ record.
