(January 27th, 2015) – PETTISVILLE: The lady Blackbirds took flight in the latter half of Tuesday’s game against the Locomotives of Montpelier. Substantial shooting played a critical role in the resulting 53-40 victory.

Throughout the match, Montpelier was capable of keeping Pettisville on their toes; junior Hannah Blake of the lady Locos would be the highest scoring player of the night, with an overall 20 points contributed to her team’s efforts.

Despite a strong opposing offense, the Blackbirds’ ball handling exceeded the efforts of their competitors by a long-shot. In what can only be described as a scene from The Three Musketeers, Blackbird seniors Mikala Avina, Jordyn Pursel, and Dana Fricke dominated in the second act. With a combined score of 49 points, the trio stood out as the driving force in the third and fourth quarter redemption. Individually, both Avina and Pursel scored 15 points each, and Fricke scored a team-high 19 points.

Though both teams played well defensively, mirroring 13 overall rebounds, Pettisville’s overall shooting surmounted those of the Locomotives. The home squad shot 71% from the foul line and 63% all-around. The victory kept Pettisville in the #1 spot in the BBC, with a 14-1 record. The lady Blackbirds will play next at home on Thursday against Edon.
