Phyllis Goldstein, 86 years, of Indian River, Michgian, died peacefully December 10, 2016 with her husband and daughter at her side. Phyllis was born in Montpelier, Ohio, July 3, 1930, and was raised in Bryan, Ohio. For many years, Phyllis owned Schatzers Jewel Shop in Bryan. She always had a place in her heart for her home on Burt Lake in Indian River. Her and her husband Dick made the full time move to “The Lake” she loved upon their retirement.

She was one of the first women in Ohio to attain the title of Registered Jeweler from the American Gem Society. In 1994, she was given the Athena Award in recognition of her professional excellence, community service and for actively assisting women in their attainment of professional excellence and leadership skills. At various times, she was active in the Claire Newcomer Club, PEO of Petoskey, and the Bryan Hospital Gift Shop. Phyllis enjoyed her sports and was a long time member of OHCC in Bryan, Ohio, as well as Indian River Golf Club (and a Proud Ohio State Buckeye fan to the end). Those that knew “Nana” will truly miss her quick wit, photogenic smile, sense of humor, and infectious laugh.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, her brother William Freed, and sister Lenore Yahrus. She is survived by her loving husband of 37 years Dick, her daughters Sally Tackett (Roger) and Cindy Ames (Dennis), step daughters Wendy Osgood (Mike), Jill Torvinen (Leo), and Lynn Wagner (Clint); several grandchildren and great grandchildren; one brother, Lyle Freed (Linda), and MANY close friends and neighbors.

Visitation for Phyllis Goldstein will be Friday, December 16, 2016 from 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. in Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 North Lynn Street Bryan. Funeral Services for Phyllis will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Bryon Adams officiating. Interment will follow in Fountain Grove Cemetery, Bryan.
