Pioneer Softballers Take Two From Hilltop

PIONEER: June 9 – Pioneer had their hitting shoes when Hilltop came to town on June 9 for a softball double dip. The hometown girls posted a total of 23 runs on 20 hits to send Hilltop home on the sorry end of a 10-8 and 13-3 doubleheader sweep.

Game #1

Makayla Hayes went the distance for Pioneer, helping her own cause with an RBI base hit.
Sabrina Pickford and Alyssa Swank each had 2 singles and 2 RBIs, and M. Knapp plated three with a pair of singles. Macayla Wildrick had 3 singles, Kelsie Sutton had an RBI single, Jessica Cheesbro had a base hit, and Tristen Tomblin plated a run.
Bailey Funkhouser took the complete game loss for Hilltop, and added a single at the dish. Allie Schmitt led the Hilltop offense with a double, a triple and 3 runs driven in.

Game #2

Swank allowed 3 unearned runs as she threw a complete game for Pioneer, then socked a home run and a single to plate four runs in her own support. Knapp drove in a pair while falling a dinger short of hitting for the cycle, and Hayes drove in another two with a double. Wildrick drove in two runs, Pickford had a pair of singles, and Allyson Hutchison had an RBI base hit.
Zoey Abner got the start for Hilltop, but the defense behind her let her down. She was tagged for 10 runs, only 4 being earned in 3 2/3 innings of work. Kaylee Underwood finished, allowing 3 runs, 2 earned.
Underwood and Ariana Brown each had singles for Hilltop, and Abner was credited with an RBI.
