Our program for our meeting of July 2, 2024 was presented by Carol Wheeler, she provided all the supplies for each of us to print with vegetables on a white bag.

We are doing this with a cut stalk of celery, pepper rings, ear of corn, pea pods, and many more and paint to put on these vegetables and making prints in a very creative decoration, and she also had all types of markers to add a swirl or two, as you can see in our picture, not any alike.

Kay Beck gave the treasurer’s report and Secretary Connie Simmons read the minutes from last meeting.

Connie McGrew reported on the prickly pear catus plant start she got from last meeting and admitted she had not planted it right away.

She had it in layered newspaper and had not watered it but when she opened it up it was in full bloom, two huge yellow flowers, she sent a picture to Cathy Sharp thanking her again for this beautiful start.

Rhonda Obus brought the arrangement titled Farmer’s Market. With that title she filled her vase with sunflowers, lilies, rose, mums, Shasta daisies, milkweed, vinca and carrots, peppers, tomatoes and radish, befitting the title.

Our Succulent of the month is Euphorbia or spurge presented by Joyce Mocherman. There are thousands of annuals and perennials of this species. Joyce names quite a few – poinsettia, Cyprus, myrtle spurge, donkey spurge, bonfire spurge, snow on the mountain, crown of thorns, and many more.

They are like a cactus, when cut let dry for a couple of weeks before planting. Joyce also talked about not being able to get another plant of one you like and have but cannot find it anymore.

Check out your plant down at the roots and see if you would have a little start, you could pull out at the base of your plant to gently pull out and it has roots, this just might work!! Joyce shared several starts from her garden.

In old business, a sign-up sheets was passed around, next month is election of officers, and who would be interested in doing more. And would anyone have any ideas for the club to do or someplace to visit.

Upcoming events: July 20th, Brian & Jan Moody are hosting an open house; July 27th is “Flare on the Square in Bryan; July 22nd, Gardening Classes- disease management at OSU Extension office; July 29th Garden Walk at Norlick Place; July 29th Cleaning flower beds at Fairgrounds. and September 26th is a Fall Flower Arrangement Class for $5.00 in the Gillette Building at the Fairgrounds.

Our next meeting will be August 6th at 6:00 P.M. at Rozetta Luke’s home we will be making center pieces for State Convention as our Club will be helping for Aug. 26-28th. Rozetta Luke and Connie Simmons will be hostesses. And looking for volunteers to help with the Convention, such as aides for speakers, or table leaders.

JoAnn Beucler brought and shared an Acanthus or known as “Bear’s Breeches”. A tall plant, very pretty but prickly.

Door prize brought by Cathy Sharp was won by Cam Miller. Kay Beck and Deanne Batterson provided refreshments. And we all enjoyed social time and compared our newly printed bags.
