Rosalie “Rosie” Thiel (1938 – 2024)

Rosalie Esther “Rosie” (Hug) Thiel, 86, of Blakeslee, Ohio passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on Friday evening, October 25th, 2024.

Rosie was born on October 2nd, 1938, in rural Edgerton, Ohio. The only daughter of Alfred and Idris (Kissinger) Hug’s eight children.

She was a proud 1957, graduate of Edgerton High School. Rosie worked as a waitress at Dolly’s in Edgerton during high school until she married James A. Thiel on August 30th, 1958, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Edgerton, Ohio. Jim preceded her in death in 2015.


Jim and Rosie raised their six children in Blakeslee, Ohio where they attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church for more than 60 years.

She was a homemaker, making pecan pies, cutout sugar cookies and beautiful custom cakes throughout the years. She was later employed by K-Mart and Airmate in Bryan, Ohio.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Blakeslee and along with her husband, Jim, they were members of the Fountain City Corvette Club.


Rosie was a beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend to all who met her. She could always be found supporting her grandchildren and great grandchildren at all of their plays, concerts, pageants, ballgames and more.

She also enjoyed playing Bingo in her younger years and especially enjoyed her time playing card games with her grandchildren.

Rosalie is survived by one son, Ted Thiel and Monique of Edgerton and four daughters, Debra (Paul) Green, Jr. of Edon, Dee Bowers of Bryan, Dar Thiel of Blakeslee, and Sherry (Rex) Branham of Edon. Nine Grandchildren, Jamie (Buddy) Harris, Jessica (John) Baker, Crystal Bowers, Jacob (Alisha) Joice, Rosie Branham, Jesse (Alyssa) Branham, Jimmy Branham (Ashley Martin), Eli Branham and Victoria Green (Henley Dye). Nine Great-Grandchildren, Austin, Blake and Madison Baker, Jace, Lilliana and Luke Joice, Olivia, Myron and Magnolia Branham. Two Brothers, Richard (Carol) Hug and Neal (Kathy) Hug.

Rosie was also preceded in death by a son, Fred Thiel; a son-in-law Chuck Bowers; a great-granddaughter, Brooke Lalah Baker; and five brothers, Clarence Hug, Robert Hug, Donald Hug, Arthur Hug, and Duane Hug.


Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 625 Washington Street, Blakeslee, Ohio with Father Daniel Borgelt and Father Fred Duschl officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Blakeslee. Visitation will also be on Wednesday beginning at 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral mass at 1 p.m. all at the church.

Preferred memorials are to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.

Young Family Funeral Home, Hudson/Ashley Chapel, 612 North Main Street, Hudson, Indiana is assisting the family with arrangements.
