Alma Thornburg (1943 – 2024)

Alma M. Thornburg, 81 years, of Bryan, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2024, in her home with those she loved with her. Alma was born May 11, 1943, in Bryan, Ohio, the daughter of the late Clarence P. and Leona V. (Impton) Shirkey.

She attended Bryan High School. She married Denver P. Thornburg on April 7, 1961, in Bryan, and he survives. Alma was a Realtor for Wilson Realty and Auctioneering for 22 ½ years, retiring in 2010.

She was a member of the Bryan First Church of Christ, Life Member of the Bryan Amvets Post #54, the Ohio Realtors Association, Northwest Ohio Board of Realtors, and the Cruisin Knight Car Club. For enjoyment, Alma loved to read, garden, put together jig-saw puzzles, travel and visit the casino.

Surviving is her husband, Denver of Bryan; one son, Scott (Julie) Thornburg of Camden, Michigan; grandson, Senior Airman Jordan Thornburg USAF, Omaha, Nebraska; one brother, Lee (Sue) Shirkey of Bryan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Paula Thornburg; one brother, Richard “Dick” Shirkey; two sisters, Shirley Lyons and Carolyn Hanson.

Visitation for Alma M. Thornburg will be held Thursday October 31, 2024, beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan, followed by funeral services at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, in the Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Snavley officiating. Committal Services will take place in Shiffler Cemetery, Monday, November 4, 2024, at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions be made to Bryan First Church of Christ.
