(March 31st, 2015) – ANTWERP: It was a momentous day for Lady Cadet Madeline Routhier. During her team’s track meet against the Archers of Antwerp, she earned a third place finish in the high jump, while taking first place in both the one and two mile runs. But it was the form of the two races that made the afternoon so special for the Hilltop senior.
It was that event that put her in the school’s record books.
With a time of 5:49, Routhier broke the Hilltop record for the fastest one mile run. The previous record was 5:50, as she just edged her way into history.
Distance was a strong suit for the Hilltop girls. Aside from Routhier’s accomplishments, Landrey Brown claimed third place in the mile. Shanti Wyse took second in the two mile.
Kara Brown was busy throughout the meet for the Cadet girls. Taking third place in the long jump, Brown balanced out her day with several running events. She finished in third place of the 100 meter race, while earning fourth in both the 200 meter and 400 meter events.
A lack of numbers really hurt Hilltop in this meet. They finished in last place with a score of 24 points overall. The talent was there to have a better showing, but depth could be an issue for them throughout the year.
