Sarah Jane Sweet, age 81, of Stryker, Ohio, passed away at 11:11 P.M. on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at Defiance Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Defiance, Ohio, surrounded by her family, after an extended illness.
She attended Stryker High School and worked as an inspector for Strydel in Stryker until the closing of the plant, retiring with thirty years of service.
While at Strydell she served as union steward and was financial secretary of the USW Local.
She enjoyed crocheting, baking, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Sarah Jane Sweet was born on June 3, 1941, in Wauseon, Ohio, the daughter of Harold O. and Evelyn (Towers) Friedel.
Survivors include her children, Dodi Filson, of Stryker, Ronald Duane (Marion) Travelbee, of Napoleon, Ohio, Holly White, of Stryker, and Jenny Jo Welsh, also of Stryker; fourteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Peggy Bishop, of Defiance, Ohio, and Michelle “Mitzy” Gary, of Edgerton.
She was preceded in death by one son, Joel Allen Travelbee; five brothers, Larry, Eric, Randy, Ned, and Dennis Friedel; and one sister, Susan Friedel.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, from 3:00-7:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. Services will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Bryan, with Pastor Janet Strickland officiating. Private interment will take place in Oakwood Cemetery, Stryker, Ohio.
