general_store (2) WEBArchbold, OH – A variety of free demonstrations will be offered this winter as part of the “Craft Saturdays” events at Sauder Village.  From February 2 through March 23 guests will have the opportunity to learn something on Saturdays this winter at the Sauder Village Gift Shop and Lauber’s General Store.

“We’re pleased to have a unique slate of free craft demonstrations planned again this winter,” shared Leslie Hartman, Retail Manager. “From bookmarks and old-time toys for children to green cleaning techniques, floral arranging and making paper flowers – there is something for everyone!”

The “Craft Saturdays” events allow guests to come to the Village to watch a free demonstration in the Retail Shops. The kits or items used in the short demonstration are then available for sale for guests to try these crafts at home.

On Saturday, February 2 a “Velvet Art” demonstration will be given to show kids of all ages how to make a bookmark. The February 9 event focuses on “Green Cleaning Techniques” – providing adults with information on using essential oils for herbal cleaning. The “Floral Arranging” demonstration on February 16 will offer adults tips on making attractive flower arrangements and on February 23 kids of all ages can attend “Make Your Own Flip Book” to learn how to make a moving picture show!
A variety of free demonstrations will also be given throughout the month of March. On Saturday, March 2 kids of all ages will have fun with checkers, pickup sticks, Jacks and more at the “Olde Time Toys and Games” demonstration. The “Green Cleaning Techniques” program is scheduled again on March 9 and the “Floral Arranging” demonstration will be held on March 16. Finally, on Saturday, March 23 kids of all ages will enjoy learning how to make a flower bouquet at the “Making Paper Flowers” demonstration.
Another special event planned this winter is the “For the Love of Gourds” Trunk Show and Sale. Sue Marcis will be at Lauber’s General Store on Saturday, March 9 to show her extensive collection of handcrafted gourds. From 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Sue will showcase her work and share her story and love of gourds with guests.

While the Historic Village may be closed for the winter, the Shops at Sauder Village offer unique shopping opportunities year round! Throughout the winter the Gift Shop  and Threads of Tradition Quilt Shop are open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Lauber’s General Store is open Monday through Friday by request (stop by the Gift Shop) and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  While at Sauder Village guests may also want to visit the Sauder Store and Outlet, enjoy a delicious meal at the Barn Restaurant and pick-up some sweet treats from the Doughbox Bakery.
