VARSITY BASEBALL (regular season)
Bryan 6, Wauseon 2
The Golden Bears were crowned NWOAL champions with their game against the Indians. Both teams went into the contest standing at 6-1 in league play. The game had been postponed four different times throughout the spring leading to the championship match up ironically. Bryan wasted little time in jumping out to a 6-0 lead after three innings. Wauseon scored two in the bottom of the sixth. Deylen Miley led Bryan offensively with three hits in three at bats. He added a RBI to his stats. Bryan’s other three hits were turned in by Tyler Roushia, Chris Wittler and Daniel Borland. Miley had two doubles for the Golden Bears while Roushia and Borland added a double apiece. Christian Pool and Bleus Creek combined for the win on the mound. Pool pitched a strong 5.2 innings giving up two runs on four hits while striking out 10. Creek came in for the last 1.1 innings and was perfect with no hits and no runs scored. The Indians’ four hits came from the bats of Brady Kinnersley, CJ Moser, Brady Rupp and Travis Smith. Kinnersley connected for a double to drive in a run while Moser contributed the other RBI on a single. Rupp and Smith had singles. Rupp and Carter Bzovi were on the mound for Wauseon. Rupp threw four innings giving up four runs on six hits while striking out four. Bzovi shut the Golden Bears out over the final three innings with four strikeouts.
Defiance 12, Archbold 4
The Bluestreaks ran into a buzz saw as they played host to state ranked Defiance. The Bulldogs (22-2) scored seven runs in the first two innings. Archbold notched all their runs over the same innings but then were shutout the rest of the way. Ben Bucklew was one for three with a double and three RBI for Archbold.
VARSITY SOFTBALL
Edon 20, Fayette 2
The Bombers, after taking a 5-1 lead after two innings, exploded for 12 third inning runs to the put the BBC contest away. Jordan Runyan pitched the complete game as she gave up two runs on seven hits and had two strikeouts. Kaitlyn Brubaker and Haley Perdue each pitched for the Eagles. Brubaker gave up 15 runs on three hits with six errors. Perdue gave up five runs on three hits with five errors. A. Maier finished with two hits for Edon and had four RBI. Eliza Zulch, Shalyn Mason, Faith Linversparger and Chloe Thiel each had one hit for the winners. K. Brubaker had two hits for Fayette followed by one hit apiece from Bailee Smith, Jessie Wheeler, Kylie Dennison, Maddy Kusmierz and Jordan Douglass.
VARSITY TENNIS
Wauseon 5, Maumee 0
The Indians recorded their 16th win with the shutout victory over Maumee. Conner Hicks, Derek Zimmerman and Evan Kost were winners in single play. Hicks won 7-6, 6-4, Zimmerman won in three sets 6-7, 6-2, 7-5 and Kost won in straight sets 6-1, 6-0. In doubles it was Aaron Spieles and Tristan Uribes gaining a win 6-2, 6-2 and Tyler Wilcoxon and James Allen were victorious 6-0, 6-1.
