Saturday, October 29 Scoring Summaries

BOYS VARSITY SOCCER

Archbold 3, Ottawa Hills 2

The Bluestreaks claimed their second District championship in a row with the one-goal win over Ottawa Hills.  It was the Josh and Jared Kidder show as the Bluestreaks kept rolling along improving to 18-0-1 on the season. After Ottawa Hills scored first at the 37:07 mark to start the contest. Josh Kidder tied the game less than two minutes later before Jared Kidder found the goal to give the Streaks a 2-1 advantage as the 22:36 mark. After the half, Ottawa Hills found the net with 23:00 left in the game. Josh Kidder was able to answer that goal at the 16:14 mark as Archbold advanced to regional play. It was Archbold’s second straight win over Ottawa Hills. With the win, Archbold claimed their third district title in five years. In his seven years leading the Bluestreaks, coach Sean Stewart collected his 100th win.

BOYS VARSITY CROSS COUNTRY

DIVISION II REGIONAL

The meet was held at Hedges-Boyers Park in Tiffin with 92 runners from around the region. When the runners came sprinting to the finish line, Wauseon’s Kyle Vernot crossed in 10th place punching his ticket to next week’s state meet.  Vernot, a junior, ran the 3.2 mile course in 16:45.96. The winning time of the race was turned in by Maumee’s Zak Kirk in 15:43.98. Other Wauseon finishers included: Christian Laging-Suarez (32nd, 17:48.02), Joshua Lowry (39th, 17:58.56), Seth Hutchison (46th, 18:08.45), Aaron Beck (59th, 18:31.77), Michael Cheezan (60th, 18:33.85), Nicolas Walbolt (81st, 19:53.70). Brett Bettinger from Swanton competed for the Bulldogs and finished (58th, 18:28.97).

DIVISION III REGIONAL

The top area finisher in the race at Hedges-Boyers Park in Tiffin was Delta’s Maverick Wright. Wright ran to a 15th place finish in the 187 runner field. Maverick’s placement and time of 17:10.10 advanced him to the State Cross Country meet in Columbus this weekend. Jared Rediger was three place behind Wright as he will continue on to the state meet after a 18th place with a time of 17:16.60.  Fayette’s Clayton Pheils ran to a 63rd place finish in 18:01.15 while North Central was represented by Jason Vassor who crossed the line in 76th place with a time of 18:16.49.

GIRLS VARSITY CROSS COUNTRY

DIVISION III REGIONAL

The Pettisville Lady Blackbirds brought home the regional runner up trophy with a 131 points. The race, consisting of 174 runners, took place at Hedges-Boyers Park in Tiffin. To advance to Columbus the Blackbirds had the following finishes: Elizabeth Sauder (13th, 19:42.04), Nichole Foor (14th, 19:42.19), Alexa Leppelmeier (20th, 19:51.39), Kate Stuber (59th, 21:19.74), Kelly Miller (61st, 21:20.75), Morgan Leppelmeier (62nd, 21:21.21), Sarah Foor (95th, 22:30.31). Archbold’s Gwynn Riley is advancing to state after she turned in a time of 20:06.10 that was good for 25th place. Other runners from the area included: The Evergreen team who ran in 22nd place. The Vikings were paced by: Trinity Welch (118th, 23:03.10), Ashley Garlick (154th, 24:47.06), Katie Fritsch (158th, 25:00.51), Heidi Fritsch (166th, 25:28.43) and Hannah Klebold (174th, 28:44.56). Jacqueline Carlson represented Montpelier finishing (41st, 20:47.50).
