September Was A Busy Month For Fayette FFA Members

This past September has been very busy for the FFA Chapter. Every year member’s participate in county soils. This year there were twenty five 8th graders that competed in the Rural Soil Judging contest along with eighteen high school members.  Six high school members participated in the Urban Soil Judging contest. Those advancing to the districts Rural Soil Judging contest were Zayne Colegrove, Alec Highlander, Patty Hookstadt, Demi Powers, Miranda Minzey, Ceairia Keller, Chyenne James, and Danial Michael. They placed 5th in the district out of twenty teams. Those who advanced to the Urban Soil Judging contest were Logan Franks, Chandler Sanford, Adrianna Hibbard, Presley Pennington, Leah Bussing, and Ciara Lichtenwald. This team placed eleventh in the district. Zayne Colegrove, Alec Highlander, Miranda Minzey, and Ceairia Keller will be competing at the state Rural Soil Judging contest near Mansfield Ohio on September 13th.

Each year the freshmen get a chance to attend Greenhand Camp for 2 days.  Greenhand Camp teaches them more about leadership skills and what opportunities FFA offers and can give to them. Freshmen that attended this camp were Emilie Keiser, Joel Smith, Kaela Seiler, Casen Burkholder, and Alexis Fruchey.

Each month the officer team nominates three members to be candidates for member of the month. Members nominated have competed in many activities through the course of that month. Members then vote at the FFA meeting on who should be member of the month. The member of the month for September was Wade Burkholder. Wade participated in a wide variety of activities including, but not limited to taking crop products to the Fulton county fair, working pork stand, judging livestock, and participating in county soils. October member of the month was Logan Franks.  Logan participated in the Urban Soil judging contest in both county and district levels. He will also be participating in the trap shoot on September 16th. Congratulations to these members!

Beginning on October 18th through November 9th the FFA chapter will be selling Florida Citrus, Ohio apples, nuts, BBQ sauce, and beef jerky.  Money raised from this fund raiser is used to send members to camp, national and state conventions, leadership conferences, and also allows for members to be rewarded for their accomplishments at the annual FFA Banquet. Upcoming events for the Fayette FFA include National FFA Convention and the Parliamentary Procedure Contest.
