Autism Spectrum Disorder effects approximately 1 in every 68 people. The Autism Society of Northwest Ohio provides support, advocacy, and events for those affected by autism. On Saturday, June 3rd 2017 Sullivan’s Restaurant in Wauseon will be the site of Spectrum Festival 2017 presented by F&M Bank, an one-day annual event designed to help raise awareness about the disorder.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurobiological disorder of the brain that usually appears in the first three years of a child’s life. As a spectrum disorder, autism has many different forms and levels of severity; there is no known cause or cure. According to the March 2014 report from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), 1 out of every 68 births will have autism, which makes autism the fastest growing disability in America. Autism can present physical, emotional, and financial challenges for families. Without adequate support for families, these challenges can be devastating.

This event includes live entertainment with Amelia Airharts performing at 8:00pm, the Noisy Neighbors at 9:00pm, and taking the stage at 10:00pm will be the Donny Brown Band. Brown is a former member of the 90’s rock band The Verve Pipe, who hit the charts with their song “The Freshman”. From 3:00pm-4:00pm and again from 6:00pm- 8:00pm, local artist, art teacher and owner of Brushstrokes by B, Sarah Friess will be providing painting lessons for adults as part of a Wine and Canvas event. The fee for this is $30 and includes: the class, canvas, paint, and 2 glasses of wine. There will be events for children as well, with various painting and clay classes starting at 1:00 and going until about 6:00. All children’s classes and supplies will be provided for free thanks to sponsors of the event. You can register at the event for the classes, but space is limited so it’s recommended that you pre-register by visiting spectrumfest.org.

Tickets for Spectrum Festival 2017 are $10 and are available at Sullivan’s, Fulton County Board of Developmental Disabilities, New Horizon Academy or at the door. Also, there are opportunities to become a sponsor of this great event with sponsorship levels beginning at $100. If you would like more details about becoming a sponsor or more information about the event itself, visit their website at www.spectrumfest.org.
