Spring Sports Roundup For May 7th, 2021

VARSITY SOFTBALL

Montpelier 11 Pettisville 1 (6 innings)

Addison Dick went 2-3 with a home run and two RBIs to pace the Locos (6-13, 6-3 in BBC) to a 11-1 win over Pettisville. Kyndra Abrams also had two hits and two RBIs for Montpelier. Ella Richer topped Pettisville (6-8, 4-6) at the plate with a pair of singles.

Hilltop 18 North Central 0 (5 innings)

Lana Baker pitched a complete game two-hitter and Leanna Baker homered to help the Cadets secure their eighth consecutive BBC crown with an 18-0 win. Lana Baker also had three hits for Hilltop (20-3, 10-0 in BBC) while Kacy Connolly went 2-4 with three RBIs.

Stryker 6 Fayette 4

Haylee Fulk had three hits for Stryker (5-7, 4-3 in BBC) as they scored twice in the fourth inning and once in the fifth to rally for a 6-4 win over Fayette. Taylore Rethmel chipped in with two singles for the Panthers. Fayette 0-11, 0-7) was paced offensively by Emersyn Sinks with two hits.

Liberty Center 17 Edon 3 (6 innings)

Edon (3-12) committed nine fielding errors which led to only two of the 17 Tiger runs to be earned as Liberty Center rolled to a 17-3 non-league win. Carlie Kiess had a single and drove in two runs for Edon.

Wauseon 14 Patrick Henry 0

Chelsie Raabe got things going for Wauseon with a solo home run in the second and Macee Schang connected for a grand slam in the seventh as Wauseon ended the NWOAL season with a 14-0 win at Patrick Henry. Wauseon (15-6, 4-3 in NWOAL) collected 17 hits on the night with Olivia Gigax and Bri Hays registering four hits each for the Indians. Schang got the win in the circle for the Indians allowing just one hit and tallying 18 strikeouts.

Archbold 3 Bryan 2

Carsyn Hagans and Kylie Sauder each went deep as Archbold (9-9, 3-4 in NWOAL) upset Bryan 3-2 in the NWOAL finale for both clubs. Sauder ended with two RBIs on the night and Harley Phillips added two singles. Addie Arnold had two hits and an RBI for the Lady Bears (19-2, 6-1) in the loss.

Evergreen 7 Swanton 6 (8 innings)

The Vikings rallied from a 5-0 deficit to force extra innings where Brooklyn Richardson drove in the winning run in the eighth to give Evergreen (12-8, 6-1 in NWOAL) the walk-off win. The Viking win combined with Bryan’s loss at Archbold gives Evergreen a share of the NWOAL title with the Golden Bears. Richardson was 2-3 with two RBIs on the night, Kennedy Keller added three RBIs, and Jocelyn Schuster had three hits for Evergreen. Rachel Waszak had a four-hit night to lead Swanton (15-5, 4-3) while Brianna Williams went 3-4 with a home run and three RBIs.

Prairie Heights d. Edon 26-6 (5 innings)

JV SCORES:

Archbold d. Bryan 17-1 (6 innings)

VARSITY BASEBALL

Wauseon 3 Patrick Henry 0

Connar Penrod held Patrick Henry to only two hits and recorded 16 strikeouts as Wauseon (14-4, 7-0 in NWOAL) clinched an outright NWOAL championship with a 3-0 win over the Patriots. Penrod also helped himself at the plate with a double and two RBIs while Cameron Cantu added a solo home run.

Evergreen 12 Swanton 0 (5 innings)

Landen Vance tossed a five inning two-hitter and the Vikings scored six times in the fourth to lift them to a 12-0 win over Swanton. Brock Hudik, Connor Hewson, and Payton Boucher had two hits each for Evergreen with Boucher also adding four RBIs.

Bryan 11 Archbold 4

Down 4-1 after four innings, the Golden Bears posted five runs in fifth and sixth inning each to take the lead and go on to a 11-4 win at Archbold. Breven Deckrosh led the attack for Bryan (9-11, 6-1 in NWOAL) with a double, triple, and three RBIs with Keith Huard adding a 3-5 (two singles, one double) night. Jaybe Burkle had three doubles for the Bluestreaks (14-6, 4-3) and Carson Dominique drove in two runs.

Pettisville 21 Hilltop 0 (5 innings)

The Blackbirds exploded for 17 runs in the third inning to put the game out of reach in a 21-0 win over Hilltop (4-16, 4-6 in BBC). Josh Knorr led the Pettisville (12-4, 7-3) onslaught with two hits, four RBIs, Josh Horning had three hits, and Anthony Smith and Jake King each had two hits with three runs batted in.

Liberty Center 15 Edon 5 (6 innings)

Gavin Gerken had five RBIs as Liberty Center quickly erased a 1-0 Edon lead with ten unanswered runs to get the win. Ethan Steinke had a double with two singles for the Bombers and Garrett Skiles had two RBIs.
