STRYKER BOARD OF EDUCATION: Board Approves Hiring Of Nathan French As New CFO/Treasurer

The Stryker Local School District approved Nathan French as its new CFO/Treasurer at its board meeting on Monday, October 20.

Following the roll call of board members, with Sharon vonSeggern, Chase Stuckey, Dan Hughes, Brent Froelich, and Emily Clemens present, the Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

French was approved with a three-year contract as the new CFO/Treasurer from November 17, 2025, to July 31, 2028. He replaces Jill Peters, who resigned on October 17.

A resident of Montpelier, French has been employed with the State Auditor’s Office, serving in the Northwest Ohio area for the past 28-plus years.

The board also approved Thomas Taylor as interim CFO/Treasurer from October 20, 2025, to November 26, 2025. The vote was 4-0 with Hughes abstaining.

Minutes were approved from the October 9, 2025, special meeting and the September 15, 2025, regular meeting.

Donations were accepted, including $150 from the Williams County Agricultural Society to the high school band from the county band fair show, and $1,785.50 from an anonymous donor to the Stryker Junior Class fund.

Superintendent Nate Johnson made a recommendation for approval of the Then and Now Certificate to the Northern Buckeye Educational Council in the amount of $8,571 for Verkada Security Annual eServices.

Elementary principal Kallie Gensler reported the third-grade fall ELA Test will be administered on October 21-22. The elementary quiz bowl match was held on October 21 at Bryan Elementary School.

She also reported that the fifth and sixth-graders will be taking a field trip on October 31 to Votaw Farms. Right to Read Week and the Scholastic Book Fair will take place from November 3 through 7. Crazy Coin Day and Family Fun Night will be held on November 7.

The Veterans Day recognition will take place on November 11, and the fourth-graders will be going to Founder’s Hall in Archbold on the same day for a Toledo Symphony performance.

High School Principal Jaime Grime reported that the first nine weeks ended on Friday, October 17. He noted that golf and volleyball have concluded their successful seasons. The volleyball team won its first Buckeye Border Conference title since 2006.

Grime noted that the high school students participated in a community service/leadership workday on Saturday, October 24.

The board approved Olivia Breininger and Landon Ballin on the classified/certified personnel substitute list in custodial, food service, maintenance, and transportation.

Approval was given to update the changes to the following supplemental contracts for the 2025-26 school year, to reflect the years of experience/contract adjustments. Joe Beck (junior high girls basketball, 9 years and high school track, 6 years); Braden Bumb (junior high track, 1 year); Blake Burkholder (archery, 7 years); Barbara Figgins (junior high girls basketball and high school track, 9 years); Amanda Julliard (high school track, 2 years); Conner Varner (girls basketball, 6 years) and Tyler Woolace (boys basketball, 9 years).

Supplemental contracts were approved for the 2025-26 school year for Joe Beck (varsity boys and girls track) and Kinsey Myers (high school track assistant).

The board approved an overnight/extended trip for the Stryker FFA to attend the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, from October 29-31.

Approval was given for the Career Tech Education junior high waiver and updates to the district job descriptions.

Johnson updated board members on the Agriculture Technology building addition project.

The courtyard infill and drywall are already installed, along with the patching, and are ready to be painted, as noted among the punch list items presented by the superintendent.

The board adjourned at 5:42 p.m., and the next regular meeting is Monday, November 15, at 5:30 p.m.
