Stryker Fourth Graders Take Field Trip To Stryker Depot

HURRAY! A FIELD TRIP … Mr. Blake Burkholder’s 4th grade class got to take a short walk from Stryker Elementary to the Stryker Depot for a field trip on Wednesday, May 5. Seen here are half of his class who walked over in the morning. The other half got to go in the afternoon. Stryker Depot was purchased by Erie Sauder in 1985 and donated it to the village. Eventually it was used as the Police Station/Village Hall for a while and then the village asked Stryker Area Heritage Foundation if they would like to set it up as a Museum. It is now a lovely, small town museum that can be seen by request. (PHOTOS BY REBECCA MILLER, STAFF)

WOODEN SHOES MADE IN STRYKER … When asked what she liked best or learned while on their tour, Elizabeth Dragoo said she enjoyed seeing the outfits people used to wear and the wooden shoes that were made in Stryker. Seeing those shoes, especially the marks on the bottom that show they were hand carved, is worth the trip.

DOCENTS … The 4th grade students were treated to a great presentation of Ohio and Stryker information throughout the Stryker Depot Museum during their Field Trip. Terry Wieland, on the right, and Sue Buehrer enjoyed teaching the youngsters about the history of Stryker and explaining some of the items in the museum.

GREAT VARIETY OF ITEMS…Madilyn Lesley said she “liked the information about the old camera, too. It was cool!’ The variety of historical items at the depot is excellent, from military to Stryker School, to The General model from the Andrews Raid. It all allows a pleasant stroll through the past and Mr. Wieland invited everyone to bring their families sometime. The children were all given a packet with a postcard of the Depot and a coupon for a free ice cream at Clubhouse.
