The Village of Stryker held its meeting on Monday, July 15th. The meeting commenced at 6:00 with a prayer, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Justin Anthy, the proprietor of Anthy Armory LLC, attended the gathering to formally introduce himself and provide insight into his local business.

Additionally, Rebecca Miller presented to the council regarding the upcoming Bryan Area Christian Prayer Breakfast scheduled for September.

Council then approved the minutes from the previous meeting, as well as the financials and the finance committee minutes from the June 17th meeting.

Mayor Beck has issued a reminder about the Honor Wall bricks. The forms for purchasing the bricks are still available in the village office, and each brick costs $75.

The parade for the upcoming Stryker Heritage Days has been rescheduled to start at 4:00 p.m., with the lineup beginning at 3:00 p.m. Forms for participating in the parade will also be available at the village office.

Mayor Beck then invited Connie Aeschliman to the front of the room, acknowledging her nomination for the Good Neighbor of the Year Award.

Several members of the Stryker community expressed their admiration for Connie’s character and contributions.

Lisa Waidelich remarked, “Connie is widely recognized for her patience, helpfulness, and optimism, which extends beyond the library.” Jackie Briskey also noted, “Connie’s long-standing involvement with the library and her impact on the entire community, particularly the young children, is truly commendable.”

Connie then became emotional and said “It means so much to me to serve her community. I love Stryker and our community. I am very undeserving of this, but I thank you all so much.” Mayor Beck concluded by expressing his excitement at seeing Connie’s name as the nominee and emphasized that she truly deserved the award.

Council then approved the 3rd and final reading of Ordinance #2024-03 – an ordinance to repeal and replace section 303.10 and sub-section (a) of Ordinance #2007-11, suspended and passed ordinance #2024-07 2024 Revised Permanent Annual Appropriation Ordinance for the Village of Stryker.

The third and final reading of Resolution #05-2024-02 – a resolution accepting the amounts and rates as determined by the Budget Commission and authorizing the necessary tax levies and certifying them to the county auditor, and the first reading of Ordinance #2007-13R – amending the sidewalk ordinance.

At 6:44 p.m., council went into an executive session to discuss the purchase or sale of property. After returning from the executive session at 8:15 p.m., council scheduled a special meeting for July 22nd at 5:30 p.m. to further discuss the matter.

With nothing else left to discuss the meeting was adjourned. The next regular meeting will be held on August 19th at 6:00 p.m.
