CHANGE IN TERMINOLOGY … Council discusses the idea of citizens obtaining a permit for the use of park pavilions in an effort to skirt disagreements between two parties wanting to use the facility at the same time. Councilor Heising suggested changing the wording to reservation due to how permit sounds. An idea was also put forth regarding the use of chalkboards at the pavilion for those reserving it.

The Wauseon City Council held their meeting on Monday, July 17th. The meeting began at 5:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence.
Minutes for a previous meeting held on July 1st, 2024, were approved first, along with minutes from the Committee of the Whole meeting held on July 11th.
Council next moved to hear reports from the Tree Commission meeting held on July 2nd and Safety & Code meeting held on July 3rd.
No recommendations were made from either meeting but some items discussed are as follows. It was stated that, currently, this is nothing within city code that requires food trucks to obtain a permit.
Some permit language was looked at that exists in other areas. This will be looked into more.
The idea of permits for the use of pavilions in public parks also came up. This idea was put forward due to the number of disputes taking place between people wanting to use these spaces.
A suggestion was then put forward to call it a reservation instead of a permit, due to the pavilions being within the public parks. Additional investment into the Reighard Park area was also touched on.
Next, council members discussed the new hybrid beacon and Homecoming Park. Work on the beacon has begun but will most likely be conducted in two phases.
This is due to supply chain issues for the beacon and beacon arms. It was then stated that Homecoming park has come along well and is being utilized by the community more.
Discussion then shifted to the approval of the first reading for Resolution 2024-20 to authorize the mayor to enter into an agreement for the leasing of copiers and fax machines from Perry Pro Tech.
Lastly, council spoke about the Tiny’s Baseball Tournament that had recently concluded. The tournament took place at Biddle Park and saw 42 teams play 80 games according to council.
It was also stated the event had a good turnout, however, a concern was voiced. Even with the good turnout and the large amount of teams, Councilor Stickley stated the city made no money off of the event.
Additional conversation took place before it was suggested that some members of council attend the next WRA meeting and ask them to come to council to find out what all is involved with the event.
Approval of the bills was then conducted before council moved to adjourn at 5:24 p.m.
