The Super Cruise took place in Downtown Wauseon on Tuesday June 15th. Wauseon holds a cruise night every Tuesday night in May through August. The super cruise event takes place on the third Tuesday of June, July and August and are the largest of the cruise night events in Wauseon.

Super Cruise nights have a larger number of vehicles that register to be shown. Angel Matthews is one of the committee members for the Super Cruise and explained that it usually brings in around 500 to 800 vehicles.

From new cars to old cars, “If your proud of it, bring it,” Angel said. Super Cruise nights also have live music, food vendors and door prizes.

This was an especially special super cruise for Wauseon as it marks 31 years since they began. It is also the first super cruise in 2 years due to COVID-19 shutting them down for the entire year in 2020.

Last year was also going to bring the 30-year reunion of the Super Cruises past committees together for a night. That was unable to happen but is being looked at as a possibility in the future.

After taking a year off the city was ready to get back at it. Scott Ellinwood, who is a committee member, said “I love it, I have lived here all my life and I am glad that it’s back.”

Many people were glad to see it back as the streets were packed on both sides of Fulton Street with cars and people. The state bank gave out all the ice cream it had for free will donations to the Fulton County Humane Society and Wolf it Down BBQ sold out.

The First Christian Church was also selling ice cream and Weenie Dawgs Concessions also had a long line throughout the night.

Martin Taylor is another member on the committee and has been for a while. “Wauseon just has a hometown atmosphere. There are people who have left Wauseon to go and live somewhere else and they come back for the Cruise Nights because they miss it.”

Cruise nights take place from 6pm to 8pm every Tuesday night with Super Cruise nights going from 6pm to 9pm.

July 20th will be the next Super Cruise in Wauseon followed by the Wauseon Homecoming on July 22nd, 23rd and 24th.
