Cholesterol Screening will be part of the annual heart Radiothon screening at the library, scheduled from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, April 13. Participants will receive their total cholesterol number, HDL (good cholesterol number), and blood glucose (blood sugar) number. Blood pressure will also be checked. A $5.00 donation to Heart Radiothon is requested. No appointment necessary.

Attention Seniors! Val Edwards, Information and Referral Specialist at the Fulton County Senior Center, will be at the library from 10:00 am to noon on Thursday, April 21, providing help with Medicare, bills, applications and other retirement issues. Call Val at the Senior Center (419-337-9299) to schedule an appointment for this free service.

Yoga Classes, taught by Aimee Strohbeck, have been very popular at Swanton Public Library since their introduction. This month Aimee will offer four yoga classes, including two new ones. Students are asked to bring a yoga mat and towel and to wear comfortable, stretchy clothing.

•Intro to Yoga is offered from 10:15 am to 11:45 am on Thursdays, April 7, 14, 21, and 28. Class fee is by donation, with proceeds benefiting the library.

•Beginning Yoga is from 10:15 am to 11:45 am on Mondays, April 11, 18, and 25. These sessions are slightly more advanced than those in Intro to Yoga, providing students with an opportunity to expand their skill level. Class fee is $10 per session with multi-session tickets available.

•Chair Yoga is from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Thursdays, April 7, 14, 21, and 28. This class involves the same poses done in other yoga classes, but modified to make them gentler while sitting or sometimes standing with a chair for balance and support. Yoga from a chair benefits flexibility, strength, inner peace, and mental focus. Class fee is $5. No yoga mat required for this class.

•Mixed Hatha Yoga Level 1 and 2 is an evening class! Offered from 6:00 pm to 7:15 pm on Mondays, April 11, 18, and 25, this class is safe for most beginners and focuses on yoga for stress and anxiety relief, learning to relax and calm the mind, improving flexibility, balance, physical and mental strength. Attention is given to individual alignment and practice with ahimsa: kindness and compassion to oneself and others. Class structure begins with centering breath awareness and includes gentle warm-ups, standing poses, mild backbends, forward bends, spinal twists and abdominal and upper body strengthening. A nice way to bring the body and mind back to a state of balance at day’s end, often resulting in a better night’s sleep. Class cost is $10.

Our series of Cardmaking Classes, led by Anna Geis, continues in April with Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and thank you cards. The class will be held Thursday, April 21 from 6:30 – 8:00 pm and the fee is $5 for 3 cards. Children 8 and older are welcome when accompanied by an adult. Registration is required. Please call 419-826-2760 to register or register online.

Chess will be offered on Wednesday evenings at 6 pm. and Saturdays at 1:00 pm. The chess group, led by Joe Mossa, is growing steadily, so come join them for a challenging game!

Our SPL Knitting Group, led by Kathy Queen, provides instruction, inspiration, and fun with other yarn lovers. Daytime knitters will meet Monday, April 25 at 1:30 pm.

Evening knitters will meet on Wednesday, April 27 at 6:30 pm. All skill levels are welcome to attend this free class – crocheters are certainly welcome too! Beginners please bring a pair of knitting needles, size 8 to 15.
